The North Queensland light tackle gamefishing season has been excellent. Each year before the Cairns heavy tackle season, we warm up with the thrill of catching the juvenile black marlin in the cooler months (July) through to September.
These fish can put up an amazing fight and are very aerobatic on ultra light tackle! There are also a number of other pelagic species to catch- in the likes of Spanish Mackerel, tuna, barracuda, GTS and scaleys (shark mackerel).
Big Game offer light tackle gamefishing action on both day trips or live aboard (overnight) charters. A live aboard trip is truly remarkable, spending the evening behind the calm reef, reef fishing for bottom fish (red emperor, spangled emperor, mangrove jack, sweetlip, job fish, red bass, sharks).
Head out early amongst the black marlin action, or mornings can be spent snorkeling and scuba diving. The Great Barrier Reef is world renowned for it’s amazing scuba diving locations. Bommies, coral reefs and an abundance of marine life stretch for the entire 2,300km length of the reef.
Big Game have a wide range of dive sites along the Great Barrier Reef. There are calm, protected, shallow spots around the islands, perfect for first-timers, there are gentle reef sites, rich in fish life and corals and the deeper sites on the outer reefs for those with some experience.
Scuba diving is for all ages and levels, wether a first timer or dive enthusiasts.
