IGFA Certified Captain Alex Johnston began crewing as a ‘third’ deckhand on his father’s marlin fishing boat at the age of 9. His passion for this sport grew throughout his teenage years when he learnt many techniques from some of the worlds best Captains and Crews. During his younger years he broke 17 IGFA smallfry and junior world records.

He accomplished his dream record at 14, a 1093lb Black Marlin. Some other world records include a 1070lb Tiger Shark, 513lb Hammerhead Shark, 515lb Whaler Shark, 24lb Bigeye trevally, 134lb dogtooth tuna.

His success speaks for itself, and he will no doubt be part of the next generation of successful skippers to fish the Great Barrier Reef.

In 2012 Alex started running the Legendary “Shikari”. He can offer you a variety of Great Barrier Reef fishing options from heavy tackle Black Marlin and light tackle sportsfishing.

Alex was lucky to be brought up on the reef, diving and snorkeling from an early age. He gained his qualifications while working on Cairns dive boats. He has dived some of the Worlds famous locations – Cod Hole (no.10 Ribbon), North Horn (Osprey), SS Yongala, and the Florida Keys.

Alex is now a qualified dive instructor, which enables him to offer the complete Great Barrier Reef experience to visiting anglers and families.
